The Fujifilm Site Unseen Collection has clearly established itself as a significant initiative that continues to gather momentum from photographic students who are keen to have their winning images published in this sought after compilation.
From its origins in 1998 as a Western Australian competition, the FUJIFILM Site Unseen Collection has come a long way. Now in its second year as a national initiative, this popular annual event once again attracted more than 1000 entries from around Australia.
There are six judges who have the challenging task of selecting just 200 images to be showcased in the book. Each image is scored on the criteria of technique and aesthetics.
While the images for inclusion in the book are selected on merit, it is encouraging to see that there is a broad cross section of winning entries that were selected from all areas of the country.
This year's entries featured a lot more
portraiture photos than previous years and this is indicative
in the collection. An increasing number of digital entries
were also submitted.
While the prize for the Site Unseen competition features the publication of the winning entries, there are also other awards in the collection for the best digital image, the cover image, the highest scored print and the folio award. The folio award is for four or more submissions from one person that have made it into the winning collection.
As a keen supporter of this event since its inception, it is a delight to see that more and more colleges around the country are recognising the Fujifilm Site Unseen collection as a renowned project and an initiative that can be the unequivocal foundation for a promising career in professional photography.
