Juanita McCleary

JUANITA McCLEARY

I have always been fascinated by the visual capture of things. Growing up on a farm in remote rural Victoria, my appreciation of beauty in simplicity is evident as I progress through my photography education and experience.

My decision to pursue a photography career was arrived at easily; I just love taking photographs and always have. My interest in the digital medium was initially slow, as I have always adored the detail and "realness" of film. However, on a recent trip to China, digital came to the fore, as the people who generously allowed me to take their picture were able to instantly look at themselves. Their delight in this was overwhelming and infectious, and I realised what immediate impact was possible. That, coupled with the ability to artistically manipulate the images to create a truly beautiful piece continues to amaze and inspire me to become ever more creative.

I am especially thankful for the influences and support of my fellow students and teachers at Photography Studies College (PSC) in Melbourne, without which I would have achieved far less than I have.
